Spiritual Mentoring  12 Ways of Realizing God -the Creator 1) Longing. Have the same longing and thirst for union with God, as one who has been laying in the hot sun of the Sahara -experiences the longing for water... then you will realize God. 2) Peace of mind. If you have the peace of a frozen lake... then you too will realize God. 3) Humility. If you have the humility of the earth, which can be molded into any shape... then you will know God -the Creator. 4) Desperation. If you experience the desperation that causes a man to commit suicide -and you feel that you cannot live without seeing God... then you will see God. 5) Faith. Have the complete faith that allows one to believe it was night, even though it was day -because his master said so... then you will know God. 6) Fidelity. Have the fidelity the breathe has in your company, even without you constantly feeling it -keeping you company in happiness and in suffering; never turning against you all the days of your life... then you will know God. 7) Control through love. When your love for God drives away the lust for the things of the senses... then you will realize God. 8) Selfless service. Have the quality of selfless service unaffected by results; similar to that of the sun which serves the world by shining on all of creation, the grass and the field, the birds and the air, on the beasts in the forest, on all mankind with its sinner and its saint, its rich and its poor; unconscious of their attitude toward it... then you will win God. 9) Renunciation. If you renounce for God, everything physical, mental and spiritual... then you'll have God. 10) Obedience. If your obedience is as spontanious, complete and natural as the light is to the eye or the smell is to the nose... then you've come to God. 11) Surrender. If your surrendering to God is as wholehearted as one who is suffering from insomnia surrenders to sudden sleep, without fear of being lost... then you'll have God. 12) Love. If you have that love for God, which St. Francis had for Jesus, then not only will you realize God, but you will please God. ("12 Ways..." There was shared a wonderful response via email that may answer this for you. It is a response written by Tom & Penelope (father/daughter team & business partners- owners of "RichDreams.com."), which in respect to the writter, I am only sharing the response to the basic question of "the purpose of tithing, why & where..." It says: I used to feel the same way. I thought that tithing was the
world's biggest con game. I remember lyrics from a Hank Williams
Jr. song I loved. "All those preachers on TV with a suit and tie
and vest...they want you to send your money to the Lord, but they
give you their address."
I didn't get it.
Tithing is not something you are required to pay a church or a
temple or a mosque so you can get to heaven. Or so you can get
rich. That's absurd. And in fact, I'm sure the Universe would
reject any offering made in the spirit of investment.
Tithing is a chance for us to demonstrate in the most practical way
we have, that we recognize that we are not in charge. Tithing
demonstrates that we surrender our will to the will of the Ultimate
Creative Force of Creation.
Now, you are in fact part of that Force. But not all of it. You
do not ever see the whole picture, so you don't get to decide all
the when's, where's and how much. You don't even get to decide the
how.
Tithing is for you. It is your joy. It frees you to let the
Universe do the heavy lifting. Once you grasp the empowerment of
tithing. Once you understand the far reaching effects tithing has
on your success. Once you realize you are not in charge, you move
to a higher more powerful level of success.
Your good will flow to you like never before.
Tithing is a brilliant and deliriously joyful experience. It is as
close as we humans come to true love. You are giving the most
important thing you have in this physical world, money. And you
are giving it strictly out of love and gratitude.
It's a beautiful thing, tithing.
We tell you to tithe out of love to that person, place or
organization that leads you to spiritual growth and enlightenment.
It can be a church. It can be a temple or a mosque. It can be a
neighbor or a friend or a recording artist. Give where you find
comfort, direction and encouragement.
Deciding what you give is fixed, 10%.
Deciding where you give is up to you.
